The current rules state that when a vehicle becomes 3 years old it must go to an approved DVSA site for an inspection. We call this an MOT. After this point an MOT is required on an annual basis. The whole idea of an MOT is based around the safe operation of vehicles on our roads.
We test all petrol, diesel, Hybrid and Electrical Vehicles in Classes 1, 2 & 4.
What happens on an MOT?
Regardless of whether it is a motorbike or car/van on MOT the Tester has a list of items which they will methodically check and make notes on the condition of the vehicle. It may also require an exhaust emissions check. In every case the vehicle has its brake performance checked using either a roller brake tester or decelerometer. It’s worth noting at this point that the tester is not allowed to use tools or remove items like covers or wheels etc from the vehicle whilst under test conditions. It is purely a visual safety inspection. The only exceptions to this rule are adjusting the headlight aim and the use of MOT Board items to aid inspection. The standards of the MOT Test are the same at every MOT Test Centre and each MOT Tester carries out annual training and sits an annual assessment. This keeps the testers knowledge current and maintains an even consistency across all MOT Test Centres.
How do I book an MOT?
Call Frank Barton Motors on 01482 325 655 during office hours and speak to Dan or Jay who will give you a prompt appointment. You can present your vehicle up to 1 month early (less a calendar day) and preserve your original anniversary date. Say your car or bike is due MOT on the 1st March every year, you can actually have it tested anytime from the 2nd February and still have an anniversary date of 1st March.
What happens if my vehicle fails an MOT?
The tester will give you an MOT Fail Sheet (VT30). This will list the defects that require attention and the tester will explain what you need to do. If you want us to repair the defects we will quote the works at this point. In most cases your vehicle will qualify for a free re-test if the vehicle is booked back in within 10 working days of the original test. The vehicle will then undergo another MOT Test checking the defective items only. In most cases Rectification works at Frank Barton Motors are carried out on either a same or next day basis.
